Frank Williams backs F1 salary cap
Team boss believes capping salaries and ultimately team budgets may
have to follow if new teams are to enter the sport
Anyone know how much Frank earned last year?
He's got no chance - it's against the EU policy on restriction of
trade.
Didn't we do this one before. Drivers are contractors who race for the
team they are contracted to. Rules of employment are totally different
in this respect and if a team wants to reduce the rates they pay then,
they can and will.
That does not amount to a cap.

Now tell me, why does this make Frank an Asshole?
I read this earlier...
"Mercedes' Norbert Haug admitted earlier this week that possible cuts
in the drivers' wages will be handled internally in compliance with
market forces.
Stefano Domenicali tells the Italian magazine Autosprint: "I feel in
the current climate the big teams won't have the ability any more to
think of offering certain amounts of money that some drivers get.
"So discussions can be held on this issue," the Ferrari team principal
said.
The brunt of the global crisis struck late in 2008, after Kimi
Raikkonen for example agreed a new contract believed to be in excess of
$30m per season.
Domenicali said: "Anything can be modified in life. The important thing
is wanting to do it.
"I'm convinced this issue will soon be discussed among all the teams
and with every driver.""
I expect that if Stefan had ever gone to MS and asked to renegotiate he
would have been told "Don't talk to me, talk to my Willi". I imagine
Kimi would tell him something similar.
I would think that the most susceptible drivers will actually be those
on the lower salaries and less concrete contracts, especially with
several other drivers chomping at the bit for a drive.
It's market forces.
