What does this say about a driver.
if you were starting a team tomorrow,
and winning races was a significantly high priority
would you choose Tony Kanaan or Danica Patrick?

Interesting question. Kanaan has certainly had more success,
but he's what, 8, 9 years older than Patrick? So he might
be heading into the declining part of his career, while
Patrick may yet be heading into her best years. It's not
as easy a choice as it might seem.

That said, if it was my team I'd take Kanaan.

Irregardless of that, it might interest some folk to know she was
racing at the Knoxville Nationals this year.

If I owned a team and was looking at Kanaan V Patrick, and my primary
motivation was to get a "winning driver", I see why you think Kanaan would
be the natural choice, but personally I still might choose Patrick.

And there are 3 reasons; The obvious one, that Patrick will reliably draw
more sponsor money for a longer term, which might more than make up for
any current talent deficit when it comes to winning. The second reason is
that Kanaan is on the decline, Danica is still getting better. And third,
Danica is clearly the best female driver in the world's top circuit racing
series today, to me that suggests she is a possible 'freak talent' and I
think freak talents can often win when others just settle for second.

Maybe a female driver of freakish talent still can't cut it with the men
anyway. But I think people write off Danica's potential too quickly, she
definitely has 'something' that most other mere mortal female drivers
don't and is worth persevering with at this stage, much like Logano is, to
see if the potential can be fulfilled.

Now she has settled down to a new contract, personally I wouldn't be
putting money on Kanaan finishing higher or winning more races than her
next year.

I caught part of that race on TV - and thought, "hmmmmm." That was
the sum total of my interest. LOL. (Irregardless really isn't a
word, fyi - just use "regardless.")

I use it apurpose because it annoys some people (it's in the
American English dictionaries btw, altho the OED doesn't
recognize it).

Okay, you can stop now because I'm officially annoyed by it. LOL.
It's served its purpose.

It led me to wonder for a bit if it meant Evernham was going to
start a sprint car team. For someone who hadn't driven a sprint
car for several years, I thought she ran as well as could be
expected.
