Post subject: Screensaver on 2008.1 laptop

Hi there,

I'm using 2008.1 Free with the 2.6.24.5-laptop-2mnb kernel. When I set
the screensaver, it tests OK, but when it is invoked normally (ie. after
being left for however long), the 'animation' runs for about ten seconds
or so then freezes. Touching the mousepad brings back the desktop
normally. It does this with the 'VirtualMachine' saver and the 'Clock'
one, and may do with others - I haven't yet checked.

Looking in /var/log/syslog I can see stuff like:

Jul 25 15:13:09 laptop kernel: ACPI Error (utobject-0502): Unsupported
reference opcode=88 in object f782a988 [20070126]
Jul 25 15:13:09 laptop kernel: ACPI Error (utobject-0502): Unsupported
reference opcode=88 in object f782a898 [20070126]
Jul 25 15:13:09 laptop kernel: ACPI Error (utobject-0502): Unsupported
reference opcode=88 in object f78245f0 [20070126]

when the screensaver freezes, and then the same three lines again when I
'wake' the machine.

Is this simply hardware in the laptop which is not supported properly,
or is something misconfigured?

I suspect a conflict between the acpi settings, and the screen saver. Is
this a kde screensaver, or an x screensaver?

For kde, right click on a blank area of the desktop, select configure
desktop. Select the display icon, then the Power control tab. Select
Configure KPowersave.

Ensure the "Enable specific screensaver settings" is not selected.

Ensure the "Enable specific display power management" is selected, but
that Standby, Suspend, and Power off after times, are all set to zero.

Excellent - that seems to do the trick, thanks.
